Marc Jacobs Shoes

Again!! These are awesome. I saw them at Bergdorf in January, and then just forgot about them, so I'm sure they're not around anymore.

See the thing is, I have always wanted this style of shoe...like the ones on Joe Jackson's "Look Sharp." By the way, in real life he was wearing black shoes and white pants. The photo is a negative.

OK, so anyway, I want this style of shoes, and they sell them in all different colors at Trash & Vaudeville, but just not in my size!! They are all too big!!

Metallic red is super sexy though. I think they also came in both black and silver.

Holiday was a travel magazine published by Triple A from 1928 to 1945, and by the Curtis Publishing Company until 1977. The covers are so cute!

The Police, Synchronicity II

The Police, "Synchronicity II" from Synchronicity, A&M Records, 1983

1. I'm into this song.
2. I like the lemon yellow hair that Sting sports here.
3. Their jackets are quite super
4. I like post-apocalyptic Mad-Max-style visuals
5. The post-modern subject matter appeals to me
6. The Police have no songs I hate, and barely any songs that I kind of dislike.

Old Hollywood Stars

Barbara Stanwyck.  I love her hair here. This may be a promotional still for the film Golden Boy (1939) in which she plays a wife of a boxer.

Vivian Leigh in Caesar and Cleopatra, 1945. This whole look is incredible.

The gorgeous Chinese-American actress, Anna May Wong. This photo is probably from the 1930's.

The always influential Louise Brooks, above and below. Both are stills from G.W. Pabst's silent film, Die Buchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box), 1929.

Miscellaneous

Dusk in Chinatown. East Broadway in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge, New York City.

There were quite a few series of Boy Scouts-related cigarette cards. This one is from about 1903-1917. The New York Public Library has quite a few other cigarette cards online, arranged by category.

Edward T. Grigware (1889-1960) was a painter of western realism, also illustrated many war-related posters for the WPA. This one was done between 1941 and 1943.

Julius Shulman, The Saltbox and the Castle, the Last Remaining Houses on Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, 1967

Who knew LA ever looked like that?

Who doesn't love Lego?

This is Giulietta Masina, an Italian actress. While waiting for a flight at the airport, I watched her in Fellini's Le Notti di Cabiria (Nights of Cabiria) (1957), and found her to be charming. The photo above is from La Strada (1954), another Fellini film.

Aston Martin Model

This is a specially-commissioned sterling silver and gold model of the Aston Martin V8 Volante (looks to be a mid-80's model). The model was made by Theo Fennel Jewelers in 1987, and it's for sale now at Nicholas Brawer.

It's so detailed that it almost looks real – when I first glanced at the top image I thought it was just an awesome chrome-y paint job!

Marc Jacobs Shoes

Check out these unbelievable glittery brogues/wingtips by Marc Jacobs!! They are cooler than anything.

Maybe I can find them like in 2 years on super clearance, because I don't see $775 in my near future. That's what they are now at Net-a-Porter. If I shared a shoe size with my man, I might see the worth.

Poster for Madonna, live at the Red Parrot, probably in 1984.

Tim Walker, Lily and Spiral Staircase, shot in Wadhwan in Gujarat, India. From UK Vogue, July 2005

Toyen, Schlafende, 1937.

Toyen was a Czech avant garde surrealist artist who worked mainly with erotic subject matter. Her style (of photo collages) seems to have been an influence on Linder Sterling.

Photo by Richard Burbridge. He has a really graphic high-contrast style that I like. He also seems to favor neon colors, as do I!

Uwe Ommer, 1984 Pirelli Calendar

The 1984 Pirelli calendar, shot by Uwe Ommer, is sexy and cool and hilarious, all at the same time.

The Pirelli calendars have been published annually since 1964 by the tire company of the same name (except for a break between 1975-83). It's a limited-supply high-art nudie calendar given as a corporate gift to important customers. Over the years, the calendars have been shot by several of the most super-major-popular fashion photographers out there, and its featured pretty much every famous model you can think of.
