CBGB Posters

When I was working on a project for CBGB, I had the privilege to dig through all kinds of stuff they've kept around over the years. They had a cache of old posters, and these from the late 70's/early 80's were the ones I liked the best.

It looks like they were all done by the same person. I tried to figure who he/she is but I can't. Their signature looks like it says S. Ray.  I did some digging, and it appears that the designer is Stephen Thomas Ray; he is a portraitist now.

This one is my fave of the bunch. I don't know much about the band The Colors, but here's some information about them.

It surprises me a bit that I don't know any of these bands. That sounds kind of arrogant, right?

Levi and the Rockats were an British/LA rockabilly band.

The Sorrows are another band I'm not familiar with, but here's what I found about them. They were a power-pop group. My boss has a friend who was in the Drongoes, but I don't know much about them beyond that.

The Student Teachers existed between Easter 1978 and Halloween 1980.

The Bloodless Pharaohs became the Stray Cats after moving from New York to London.

This poster had been hanging in Hilly Kristal's office since the show happened. It's glued over the top of an 1950's movie poster (probably Tamango, starring Dorothy Dandridge), and it's in pretty crummy shape. Hilly must have been really into the Police in order to have kept it up for so long.

And by the way...I don't care what anyone thinks: I will always count the Police as one of my top favorite bands of eternity.

Miscellaneous COLOR!

Agatha de la Ruiz Prada, Spring/Summer 2009

I love the colors used in the Bally collection for spring and summer this year. The two-tone shoes (green on the inside, blue on the outside) are great! Below is another shot of them:

Tan Tang Niah house, 37 Kerbau Road, Little India, Singapore. It was built in 1900, and restored in 1990.
It would be so cool if rays of color really bounced off of ping pong balls.

Split Enz

Spencer Higgins

Lucite and patent leather heels shot by Spencer Higgins. Two of my favorite things!

Miscellaneous

Everything in this post, I think I would like to wear together....but I guess maybe the dress needs a different fabric.

Clutches from Shangai Tang

Miu Miu shoes that I wish I had, spring 2011. They're still in stores, but not remotely close to my size. Maybe in a few months I will see them at some kind of outlet store. They photos were taken from the blog, Sea of Shoes.

I've lost the info on who made this necklace.

Paula Yates and Jools Holland when they were hosts of the English music program The Tube.

Paula Yates was Bob Geldof's wife (and Pixie and Peaches Geldof's mom) and she also had a baby with Michael Hutchence. She died in 2000. Jools Holland is still on TV in the UK, and he was also the piano player in Squeeze.

 Jil Sander handbag, Fall 2011

An antique Masonic charm from Hungary

An ad for Wire, found in an '87 issue of Spin

Passenger Lists for the S.S. De Grasse, CGT French Line, February 1928 and September 1927, both Le Havre to New York.

Amanda DeCadenet is a fashion photographer who became famous for hosting a British TV show as a teenager.

I can't tell if this is a photo that she took or if it's a photo of her. She looks generally like this and she was approximately this age in the 80's, but it also looks close to her photo style.

Whatever it is, I like the shot a quite a bit; it's kind of posh and bratty at the same time. It might be a visualization of my childhood aspirations!

Miscellaneous

Chairs by Cassina. Normally, I don't really feel anything special about these Corbusier chairs, and I'm sure it's just because I have seen them so many times. The version above is super cool though. I generally get into powder-coated steel, and I love the color combos. I wonder if we can customize the colors.

An ad for jewelry by Ippolita.

I took this photo of an Alexis Bittar necklace last summer. I wish I owned it. I used to love passing it on my way to the office everyday.

Raf Simons for Doc Martens, Fall 2009. I have a similar pair...they're like the second one, but they are the silver color.

Jonathan Borofsky

Work by Jonathan Borofsky. I took these photos at his show Five Large Paintings, which was up at Deitch Projects in New York from May 8 - June 20 in 2009. Can't believe it was 2 years ago already!
