Yves Saint Laurent, Fall 2008

More from the Fall 2008 YSL show. Sorry to show this again, but I like it too much. The black lipgloss!

Ze Records

I've been admiring the artwork of Ze Records lately.

There are definitely more, but I probably have put them up already.

In addition to the above artists, their roster also includes/included Kid Creole & the Coconuts, Was (Not Was), John Cale, Arto Lindsay, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Mars, Material, and the Waitresses. You know, all the goods.

George Kovenchuk Illustrations, 1974

These pages are from 1974's Klop (The Bedbug) by Vladimir Mayakovsky, illustrated by George Kovenchuk. The source of the scans come from A Journey Round My Skull, which is an awesome resource for a deeps spectrum of illustrators.

UK Vogue, March 15 1979

Photography by Mike Reinhardt for UK Vogue, March 15 1979. Janice Dickinson is one of the models, but I'm not sure who the other one is.

Abandoned Places

I have been looking a little bit lately at a photography forum on abandoned properties. It's an area that I have always been interested in, but too chicken to actually participate.

This is from a house in Virginia, of which the former inhabitant was probably a hoarder. See more here.

This was taken in a rubber factory in Maryland. This photo is quite beautiful; I love the color. See more here.

This is in a "Gingerbread House" at an old storybook-themed amusement park in New Jersey (below is a postcard of the exterior during it's prime.)

I urge you to look at the other photos of this place here. They're fascinating!

The photo is by Rusty Tagliareni, who visits and shoots quite a few abandoned properties in the NY/NJ area. All of his photos are really beautiful.

Janet Fielding

Eric introduced me to this, because he's always been a Dr. Who fan. This is Janet Fielding. She played Australian air hostess Tegan Jovanka, one of the Doctor's assistants from 1981 - 1984. Eric said that he always had a little crush on her, and I can see why: she has some hot outfits!

Tina Turner

You know how when you're a kid you watch particular movies over and over and over? Yeah...my brother and I watched Tina Turner's concert tour for "Private Dancer" over and over.  David Bowie was a special guest. They sang "Tonight" and Tina also does a cover of 1984 (which I don't think was on the video, but it is on the album.) Bryan Adams was a special guest too.

(This photo doesn't come from that tour.)

1956 BMW Isetta concept car. So CUTE!

Truman Capote's Black and White Ball, as printed in US Vogue, January 15, 1967.

Wish I could have been there.

I love this song! Strangely they also made an Italian version.

A still from The Hunger, an 80's vampire movie starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, Susan Sarandon. Bauhaus is also in this film.

Anjelica Huston wearing Alexander Calder jewelry.

Miscellaneous Babes

This is who I consider to be my "Celebrity Doppelganger," Isabella Rosselini; oddly though, she seems to be too obscure for people in my demographic, so I don't ever really share it.

Molly Ringwald. Cute!

Antonio Basoli

These come from Antonio Basoli's Alfabeto Pittorico, a collection of 25 lithographs of an architectural alphabet from 1839. A replica was republished in 1998 by Ravensburger Verlag (in a series of 4 books about alphabet-inspired architecture), but I am having quite a challenging time finding any evidence of this. It doesn't help that it was a German book (though it included English translation.) Read more about it here.
