Ruth Marten

Ruth Marten became known in the 1970's downtown NY art/punk scene as a tattoo artist. She started doing illustrations for Jean-Paul Goude in the late '70s, which lead her to commercial art and to fine art.

Her work is inspired by 18th century engravings, of which she collages and draws over to create clever and juxtaposing subjects and compositions.
