Antonio Lopez, Elle Magazine 1967
Antonio Lopez (1943-1987) was a major figure in fashion illustration, active from the 60's until his death in 1987. In addition to being a prolific illustrator, he was also a known for his Instamatic photos (which are awesome and I'll share at another time). Lopez was also attributed to discovering and launching the careers of Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, and Tina Chow.
Below are Lopez' illustrations from a 1967 editorial in Elle Magazine.

Malick Sidibé is a photographer from Mali that is known for his shots of nightlife and popular culture in Bamako, Mali, in the 60's and 70's. His photos of people dancing are my favorite, but he also has some really fresh shots of people posing on motorcycles. We'll look at those at another time.
Citroen collateral
You know what's cool? Citroen brochures! Some are funny, some are cute, and some cool...and some have all of those qualities. Below are a few items from the 60's.

David Hockney
David Hockney is a British artist, with a long career most firmly segmented into the Pop-Art category. This collection of work was inspired by his move to California in the mid-60's: Lawns, swimming pools, naked dudes.

Beinecke Rare Book Library, Yale University
Last fall, Dennis
and I felt like getting out of the city for the day, so we took the
train up to New Haven. The goal was to have a relaxing day and to eat at
the oldest burger joint in the country, Louis Lunch. (In addition, he really wanted to go to the preppy mecca, J. Press)
We did all of that, and then I remembered that the Beinecke Library was on Yale's campus. I wanted to check it out, because I'm familiar with their incredible online archive. Fortunately we got there about 20 minutes before they closed.
I
was in for a pleasant surprise (actually, an understatement) when we
got there and discovered the cool building that the collection was
housed in. I wasn't familiar with this building before we went.
Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill
designed the library in 1963 with the sensitive nature of the
collection in mind. They created a windowless structure out of thin
marble, of which natural light shines through. The marble, plus the dim
light gives interior a really dramatic impression.
Above is a photo of the building, and below is a detail of the exterior.
This is the interior of the library. It's really jaw-dropping. Not what you would expect to see coming in from outside.
The 5-story center core of the building houses the books and
manuscripts behind glass. Of course, you may not browse the stacks! You
have to put in a request for the materials that you want to view. There
are a few items on view behind cases around the periphery of the
library.
This is one of the coolest buildings I've been to; definitely worth the visit if you ever find yourself on Yale's campus.
Vintage Sunglasses
Left to right, top to bottom:
Michele Lamy, 1970's. Available at Eyewear Mebius
Michelle Lamy is a super cool individual. It's hard to find much history about her, especially related to the sunglasses. What's easy to discover is that she's Rick Owens' wife, that she used to own Les Deux Cafes in Los Angeles, and that she has dyed black fingertips and gold plated teeth.
“TAXI” by Casanova Venezia, 1990's. Available at Solakzade

These are off the hook. They remind me of a 1930's bakelite radio, reinterpreted by the animators of Beverly Hills Teens.

Walter Burger
Walter Burger is a Swiss painter, born in 1923. I haven't been able to find much info about him, so if you know anything, please inform me!
Walter Burger, Begegnung, 1968. Definitely the piece he is known for.
I don't have information on the title for this.
Morgen, 1994
In 1993, a Swiss Aids awareness organization (AHSGA) started collaborating with artists for a series of lithographs. Above is Burger's contribution.
"Gerade Menschen, die mit dem HI-Virus leben müssen, empfinden das Leben oft als deutlicher, bewusster, mit geschärftem Blick." - Walter Burger
My translation is this: People who live with the HIV virus often have an especially clear consciousness and keen eye.
