80's Geometry

I actually got a pretty poor grade in Geometry, which is strange since I use it quite a bit in my job.

 

What a practical bag (on the left)! Sadly, I have no info on the photo, where it came from, who the models are, the photographer, the date, or who makes the clothes in it. I'm always into a Memphis influence.

The shot is cool - the colors and everything, but most of the accessories I will admit are kind of weird. The blue glove on the top right is cool, and I would be happy to wear it (if I had two)

Ad for Susan Bennis Warren Edwards, who were the ultimate in fancy shoe design in 80's NYC. Their flagship store was on Park Ave, and it's now a construction site. They stopped designing shoes together in the 90's, when Susan Bennis decided to retire upstate. Warren Edwards still has a store.

Clutches from Shangai Tang

Miu Miu shoes that I wish I had, spring 2011. They're still in stores, but not remotely close to my size. Maybe in a few months I will see them at some kind of outlet store. They photos were taken from the blog, Sea of Shoes.

I've lost the info on who made this necklace.

Paula Yates and Jools Holland when they were hosts of the English music program The Tube.

Paula Yates was Bob Geldof's wife (and Pixie and Peaches Geldof's mom) and she also had a baby with Michael Hutchence. She died in 2000. Jools Holland is still on TV in the UK, and he was also the piano player in Squeeze.

Amanda DeCadenet is a fashion photographer who became famous for hosting a British TV show as a teenager.

I can't tell if this is a photo that she took or if it's a photo of her. She looks generally like this and she was approximately this age in the 80's, but it also looks close to her photo style.

Whatever it is, I like the shot a quite a bit; it's kind of posh and bratty at the same time. It might be a visualization of my childhood aspirations!

I'm really loving the vibrant color palette in Jil Sander's Spring collection for this year. The floral collage print is really pretty. The accessories are especially a favorite for me.

Dries Van Noten has some really special things for spring 2011. As you can imagine, I am a huge fan of the holographic materials.

I'm also loving the disco-Chinoiserie floral patterns, because they transport me to a glamorous fantasy of the late 70's: I'm in my penthouse, wearing a satin robe lounging around amongst black lacquer furniture, mauve carpet, and metallic wallpaper. I would imagine, that as a proto-yuppie on a Sunday morning, I'm listening to Hall & Oates.

Bridgeport, CT artist Dalton Ghetti works with razor blades, sewing needles and a sculpting knife to carve miniature sculptures on the graphite of used pencils. Not only is the result cool and crazy, but I like the contrast of shiny and dirty, and of bright color and neutral wood.
