See Eyewear

I had wanted to get a pair of mirrored sunglasses for the longest time, but I wasn't having an easy time finding any that thrilled me. I'm not sure why it hadn't occurred to me earlier that I could get regular frames made with mirrored lenses at the optometrist, but I'm glad it eventually did.

I recently had these guys custom made at See Eyewear. They have so many unusual frames to choose from (in EVERY color), so deciding which pair to insert shiny mirrored lenses into took me forever! I was there for at least a couple hours.

Around Town: Giorgio Armani

Necklace, Giorgio Armani; NYC, January 2014

From windows at the New York flagship. It's not clear whether the necklace is askew on the mannequin, or designed to be asymmetrical. I hope it's the latter.

80's Geometry

I actually got a pretty poor grade in Geometry, which is strange since I use it quite a bit in my job.

What a practical bag (on the left)! Sadly, I have no info on the photo, where it came from, who the models are, the photographer, the date, or who makes the clothes in it. I'm always into a Memphis influence.

The shot is cool - the colors and everything, but most of the accessories I will admit are kind of weird. The blue glove on the top right is cool, and I would be happy to wear it (if I had two)

Ad for Susan Bennis Warren Edwards, who were the ultimate in fancy shoe design in 80's NYC. Their flagship store was on Park Ave, and it's now a construction site. They stopped designing shoes together in the 90's, when Susan Bennis decided to retire upstate. Warren Edwards still has a store.

Favorite Handbags

3.1 Philip Lim clutch, fall 2012
Christian Louboutin, Fall 2012. I can't resist a Memphis influence!

Cocktail Rings

I don't tend to wear cocktail rings much, but I have been seeing a few lately that are really special.

Fortune cookie change purses by fashion designer/artist Diana Eng. You may recognize her name, because she was on season 2 of Project Runway.

Aschen and Voss cosmetic line, packaging designed by Established.

Cute rainbow pasta bow ties!

This bit of type was the title of a 70's sporting goods catalogue. Totally groovy.

A piece by Sui Jianguo. It's hard to tell if this is a photo or a drawing. Jianguo is one of China's most important sculptors. His best-known works are his huge bronze Mao suits sculptures, giant toy dinosaurs and his 'Made in China' banners or signs.

Diane von Furstenburg, Fall 2011

I visited the Soho location of DVF the other day, and I found that I kind of want to have everything in there. I plucked some of my favorites from their online shop.

From the Metallics collection (left to right)
I love long-sleeve evening wear for cold weather. It's practical but it's also unusual and cool.

Those pants are so cute. I love the slim cut, and would like to have another pair in plain black too.

These colors are perfect, and I imagine the most glamorous person of the disco era wears this outfit. I want to be her. This dress fits into a trend I'm starting to see more often: disco-chinoiserie, which I also referenced in Dries van Noten's Spring 2011 collection.

On all: Indigo Heel

Printed Collection (Left to Right)
(lets just ignore the boots for today)

Look, another practical long sleeve dress, in a color palette I love. I also would like to ignore these boots too. They are a little too clunky for my liking.

I like the funny pairing of patterns

Solid Collection (Left to Right):

Ok, cute dress, but HELLO HAT! We NEED to be friends!

Frieda & Nellie make glamorous mash-up jewelry with friendship bracelets and vintage costume jewelry. Best friends Stacy Herzog and Sarah Reid came up with the line after they were inspired by colorful bracelets they saw while on vacation in Ecuador. All of the pieces shown here are available online at Charm & Chain.

Color + sparkly gems  + mixed styles = what I like.

Vintage Sunglasses

Left to right, top to bottom:

Michele Lamy, 1970's. Available at Eyewear Mebius
Michelle Lamy is a super cool individual. It's hard to find much history about her, especially related to the sunglasses. What's easy to discover is that she's Rick Owens'  wife, that she used to own Les Deux Cafes in Los Angeles, and that she has dyed black fingertips and gold plated teeth.
“TAXI” by Casanova Venezia, 1990's. Available at Solakzade
Unknown brand, 1990's. Available at Eyewear Mebius
Michele Lamy, 1970's. Available at Eyewear Mebius
Graffitis, 1960's. Available at Eyewear Mebius
Michele Lamy, 1980's. Available through 1st Dibs
These are off the hook. They remind me of a 1930's bakelite radio, reinterpreted by the animators of Beverly Hills Teens.
