Miscellaneous: How Random Can I Get?

Helloooo!!! This art-direction is off the hook! Too bad it's probably not quite on-brand. Vogue, December 1940

The Go-Go's

Richard Bernstein!

You may recognize the style of these Richard Bernstein illustrations from the covers of 1980's-era Interview Magazine, because he was the one who did them. When I was a kid back at the end of that decade, my subscription started with his illustrations, but soon moved on to a Stephen Meisel photographic approach. (My Aunt Val always provided me with some pretty awesome subscriptions)

Our Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

Diane Lane, November 1985

Eddie Murphy, September 1987

Angela Lindvall in Prada, Fall 1999.

You see those boots she is wearing? I have those. I wish you could see the details, because they're kind of crazy: they are forest green with brown and aqua patent leather leaves and acorns all over them. They were my pride and joy for some time.

I haven't worn them in years because the heel has an early 2000's geometric shape to it, and I'm not feeling that style quite yet.

Miscellaneous: Really Random

A still from Eyes of Laura Mars, starring Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones. As it's about a fashion photographer in the 70's, it's filled with fantastic ensembles.

Packaging for Fogal pantyhose. I like everything here: color palette, typography (the secondary type is not the best though), and the logo for Fogal.

I used my phone to take photo of this ad for Maui and Sons that was in a 1987 issue of Interview magazine. I couldn't steal/buy the magazine, so there was no opportunity for scanning. I wish the photo looked clearer. I optimized it as best I could.

Anyway, I have a special thing for late-80's surfing/skating brands, and I am loving the geometric shapes and neon-pastels they're using.

Memphis-style tea pots

Magic poster for Lee, a phone hypnotist, from 1898. Here is the only info I could find on him.

Photo

Photo is a French photography magazine, focused mainly on the creative (rather than technical) aspect of photographs; mostly with a fashion objective. It's quite sexy, and seems a little more like high-end pornography. It's been around since the 70's.
