This bit of type was the title of a 70's sporting goods catalogue. Totally groovy.

A piece by Sui Jianguo. It's hard to tell if this is a photo or a drawing. Jianguo is one of China's most important sculptors. His best-known works are his huge bronze Mao suits sculptures, giant toy dinosaurs and his 'Made in China' banners or signs.

A still from Eyes of Laura Mars, starring Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones. As it's about a fashion photographer in the 70's, it's filled with fantastic ensembles.

Packaging for Fogal pantyhose. I like everything here: color palette, typography (the secondary type is not the best though), and the logo for Fogal.

I used my phone to take photo of this ad for Maui and Sons that was in a 1987 issue of Interview magazine. I couldn't steal/buy the magazine, so there was no opportunity for scanning. I wish the photo looked clearer. I optimized it as best I could.

Anyway, I have a special thing for late-80's surfing/skating brands, and I am loving the geometric shapes and neon-pastels they're using.

Nico in 1960's London

The sheet-music cover of "Niscona" – a ragtime song, by Canadian female composer, Mollie King; 1905.

I like a few things here: the illustrated typography, and the printing. It's cool how the brownish color looks like it's the substrate, but then but there is white too; so it's unclear whether there's white ink involved, or a whole lot of brown ink.

I am not sure where this is. It's a stock image that's been floating around my archives for years. It looks kind of like some work that Favela Painting, a duo of Dutch artists, has been doing in Brazil. (see below)

I have this dress. I got it at In God We Trust last summer. It's silk on the outside and linen on the inside. I think I am going to wear it at Sarah and Tom's wedding next week.

Love these colors, and the imperfect typography.

Reggae and Ska artist Desmond Dekker. He was on Stiff records in the 70's, and this is a promotional shot for that. He passed away in 2006.

Poster by British designer Tom Eckersley. I love the flat bold style that he's used.

I can't vouch for the actual music of this single, but I like the sleeve. That typography is cool. It reminds me of ladies' cigarettes.

This is from a project sponsored by Wallpaper for their sex issue, in which they enlisted various designers to refocus "Tart Cards" (hookers' calling cards) with a typeface as the subject. Funny! See the rest here.

This is the title frame for the movie. I of course love the typography here, but in addition to that, I have read the book and wrote a paper comparing the movie to the book. It's funny that I wrote it in high school, and then appropriated it for a college class. I got a better grade on the college paper than the high school one! I guess my 12th grade English teacher was a tough customer.

So regarding the type: I always want to try to use this sort of thing at work, but I never really have the right audience - and then when I do, it's deemed too "illegible."



My dad has a Mini exactly like this - same color, same flag on the roof. The only thing different is the nameplate and the license plate. Also, that's not my dad modeling it shirtless. It was the "limo" for our wedding.
