Fenton

Below are necklaces from Fenton's Spring 2011 collection, by Dana Lorenz. The plastic chains remind me of those old charm necklaces I had as a kid. Those were cute!

The necklace below is also by Dana Lorenz, but this is for her lower-priced line Fallon; it's from the Spring 2011 collection.

Miscellaneous

1954 Denzel 1500S convertable. Denzel was an Austrian car company, started by garage owner and amateur racer Wolfgang Denzel, from 1948 to 1960. Check out that fresh logo on the hood ornament!

This is a television screen shot of Cher at the 1985 MTV Music Video Awards. There were a lot of wigs this style in the audience that year.

Spring 2011 Bottega Veneta jewelry

Ok, see this? This is the process in which Jean-Paul Goude created that iconic Grace Jones image. Photoshop makes this kind of thing no big deal these days, but it took a bit of skill back then. This schematic was on display at the Brooklyn Museum last year in their show about music & photography.

Fendi Heels, Spring 2011

Look at all these!! I love the shape of these Fendi heels, and all the color choices make me think they're modular. There were several more color palettes, but I chose 12 (!!) of my favorite.

Photo

Photo is a French photography magazine, focused mainly on the creative (rather than technical) aspect of photographs; mostly with a fashion objective. It's quite sexy, and seems a little more like high-end pornography. It's been around since the 70's.

No. 254 - November 1988.
Issey Miyake clothing shot by Irving Penn: Strapless silicone zippered corset (Fall / Winter 1985) and polyurethane pants (Fall / Winter 1981).

No. 182, November 1982.
Margaux Hemingway shot by Francesco Scavullo in 1979. The photo is for a poster of the film "Lipstick" directed by Lamont Johnson.

No. 388 - April 2002

Gilbert & George

Below are some random selections by my faves, Gilbert & George. They're pretty well-known for doing gridded prints like these, but they are also very clever conceptual artists as well. They are actually quite hilarious to me.

Exhausted, 1980

Reaming, 1982

Mental, 1976

Here, 1987

Thumbing, 1991

1980 Album Covers

It was coincidental that I chose all covers from 1980 today.

The Attractions, Single Girl, F-Beat UK 7-inch, 1980.

Elvis Costello's backing band put out a single and an album (Mad About the Wrong Boy) in 1980. I never heard any of it, but I want to! At least one of their songs ("Sad About Girls") was recorded by them with Elvis. This cover is most likely a Barney Bubbles!

The B-52's, Private Idaho, Warner Bros. US 7-inch, 1980

Desmond Dekker, Israelites, Stiff Records UK 7-inch, 1980.
Also probably designed by Barney Bubbles.

Elvis Costello, High Fidelity, F-Beat UK 7-inch, 1980.
The center area is a hole, showing the label on the record, which was bright lime green!
Also probably by Barney Bubbles.

Delta 5, Try/Colour, Rough Trade UK 7-inch, 1980

Ruth Marten

Ruth Marten became known in the 1970's downtown NY art/punk scene as a tattoo artist. She started doing illustrations for Jean-Paul Goude in the late '70s, which lead her to commercial art and to fine art.

Her work is inspired by 18th century engravings, of which she collages and draws over to create clever and juxtaposing subjects and compositions.

Ladies' Goods, 2007

Mameluck, 2010

Ornithologie, 2010

 Perpetua, 2010

Canapés, 2007

Sumi Ink Club mobile

The Floating Booga, Mobile #3 by Sarah Anderson & Luke Fischbeck of the Sumi Ink Club, sold via Ooga Booga in LA.

Below are details of the mobile.

The Sumi Ink Club is an LA-based art collective that works in a Japanese style of ink painting called sumi (though this mobile is not in that style).

I always thought it would be cool to have a drawing club, but never was able to round up a crew. I suppose I still could create the opportunity!

Miscellaneous

No source for this collection of locks.

Patriotic brooch from the 1930's, celluloid.

I know nothing about these stylish people, except that their names are Chuck and Susanne.

Bowl by Iittala

Siouxsie & the Banshees, Spellbound

I heart this song! And Hell Yes I would like to have that yellow outfit! I might leave the scarf at home, however.

Miscellaneous

Robyn Hitchcock. I'm happy to see him wearing those pants.

Jane Daly getting into costume for The Mysterious Island, 1929. The film is an adaptation of Jules Verne's L'Île mystérieuse (The Mysterious Island), published in 1874
I like the package design of these snacks. I feel like I would probably be a bit more rigid than this, and put the logo/product name in the same location across packs. The firm who designed it is Pearl Fisher.

Fast Product, First Year Plan

Compilation of Fast Product singles, licensed in 1979 to EMI, filled with all my favorites.

You should DL it! Many of the songs are more like demos, because Bob Last (Fast's founder) encouraged his bands to move on to major labels.

Cover, designed by Nick Price, Malcom Garrat, and Helena Zakrzewska-Rucinska

Back. Shows each of the singles that the songs come from. It's clever that they show the whole wrap on the die line.

This is a postcard promoting the comp. I am hoping that in its time, the postcard was fluoro like the record cover was, but has just faded to that olive color.
